Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall. Reports indicate that United are preparing an initial offer for Hall, with the timing of the bid seen as significant following recent developments at St James’ Park.
Hall, who has made 102 appearances for Newcastle since joining in 2023, initially on loan before a permanent deal in 2024, is viewed as a promising young talent. He has also earned four England caps and secured a starting position at Newcastle before reaching the age of 21. Despite a challenging 25/26 campaign, which led to his absence from the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, United’s interest remains.

The potential move for Hall comes amidst a period of significant change at Newcastle. Eddie Howe, who shares an agent with Hall, is reported to have left the club after five seasons. Matthias Jaissle, currently managing Al Ahli, is considered a likely replacement for Howe.
This managerial change is accompanied by substantial player turnover. Newcastle has already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, following the sale of Alexander Isak a year prior. There are also strong links between Arsenal and Bruno Guimaraes. This period of transition at Newcastle could create an opportunity for United to acquire Hall, as the club might look to raise funds or rebuild the squad under a new manager.
Jason Wilcox, United’s technical director, is reportedly a key figure driving the club’s interest in Hall. Additionally, Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde is also on United’s radar. United are monitoring Balde’s situation, as his long-term future at Camp Nou could become less certain if Barcelona secures Salinas. For now, however, Hall remains the priority for United as they aim to strengthen their defensive options.
United’s need for a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw is a factor in their pursuit of a left-back. The current squad includes Harry Amass as a natural left-back behind Shaw, with Patrick Dorgu seemingly moving into a more advanced winger role. Although Shaw had a healthy 25/26 campaign, reports suggest he lacks the same speed and endurance that previously characterised his play.
Beyond defensive targets, United are also looking to bolster their attacking options. While a ‘predestined talent’ has reportedly made a decision regarding a move to Old Trafford, the club has also been linked with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. A deal for Watkins, who is 30 years old, is expected to be costly, with claims suggesting a £40m bid might be required. United have also reportedly rekindled their interest in Liam Delap.
United are hopeful that the ongoing changes at Newcastle will allow them to secure Hall, a key target, before the transfer window closes.
