The match achieved a 64% share of all television viewing, with an average of 13.9 million people watching as Ferran Torres scored the extra-time goal that secured Spain’s second World Cup victory.
Streaming figures for the final were also substantial, with the match streamed 11.1 million times across the broadcaster’s streaming platform and sports website and app. This included 2.4 million ultra-high definition streams on the streaming platform. Live text coverage of the match on the sports website and app received over 18.8 million views, with 14.2 million of these views originating from the UK, providing fans with real-time updates and analysis.
The third-place play-off match between England and France, held on Saturday, also attracted a notable audience. It reached a peak of 11.8 million viewers and an average audience of 10.8 million on the main channel and streaming service.
Tournament-wide engagement
Throughout the entire World Cup tournament, the broadcaster achieved an overall television reach of 42.8 million. Viewers streamed World Cup matches a total of 237 million times on the streaming platform and sports website and app, which represents more than double the streaming figures from the 2022 World Cup. Football content from the tournament accounted for 33% of all content streamed on the platform during the competition.
The sports website and app recorded 57.2 million unique visitors, with fans engaging with content 1.7 billion times. Match highlights from the World Cup were streamed 67.3 million times. Additionally, a new football-focused YouTube channel generated 100 million views across various content offerings. On social media platforms, clips, interviews, analysis, press conferences, and fan moments related to the tournament accumulated 2.55 billion video views.
The most-watched video from the World Cup was an interview with Egypt winger Mostafa Zico following Egypt’s elimination by Argentina, which alone garnered 77 million views on one social media platform.
Spain’s return and celebrations
Following their triumph, Spain’s World Cup champions have returned to Madrid to participate in a trophy parade through the capital’s streets. The team’s plane was scheduled to land at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport at approximately 2:30pm on Monday. Upon arrival, the players, coaching staff, and federation officials were to be taken to a secure location for lunch before the celebratory events commenced.

The open-top bus parade is set to begin at 7pm local time (6pm BST). Crowds had already gathered in Madrid’s Puerta de Sol and other major squares, celebrating into the early hours of Monday morning, with supporters securing spots in Cibeles Square in anticipation of the parade.
