Manchester United are reportedly preparing a bid of around £51m for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery. This move comes as Michael Carrick continues to seek a third central midfielder to bolster the squad, following the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
The club’s interest in Zaire-Emery dates back to 2023, when he was 17. Now 20 years old, he is seen as a potential key addition to the midfield, with United aiming to replace Casemiro, who departed for Inter Miami.
Midfield Reinforcement Efforts
United have already secured Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined £85m to reshape their midfield. However, the club believes a third significant addition is essential. Reports from French outlet Top Mercato indicate that an approach for Zaire-Emery is being prepared to gauge PSG‘s willingness to sell.
The Red Devils‘ midfield shortlist has included several French international players recently, such as Carlos Baleba, Alex Scott, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Manu Kone. Zaire-Emery has now emerged as a serious target in this ongoing search for midfield talent.
Zaire-Emery is described as a versatile player, capable of operating in central midfield or at right-back. This versatility is appealing to decision-makers at Old Trafford, who view him as the potential final piece in their midfield rebuild.
PSG’s Stance and Player Situation
Despite United‘s reported interest, convincing PSG to part with Zaire-Emery could prove challenging. The French champions reportedly value the player at around £68m, a figure higher than United‘s proposed opening offer. Zaire-Emery is also under contract with PSG until June 2029, with an option for an additional year.
The situation at Parc des Princes, however, has some complexities. While Zaire-Emery featured extensively last season, making 54 appearances and starting 47 of them across all competitions, much of his playing time was a result of long-term injuries to teammates Achraf Hakimi and Fabian Ruiz.
Once these senior players regained fitness, Luis Enrique reportedly returned Zaire-Emery to the substitutes’ bench for crucial fixtures, including the Champions League final against Arsenal. This situation raises questions about whether Zaire-Emery would accept a secondary role, particularly if a club offering guaranteed first-team football were to make an offer.
His club form has been impressive, and he also played 109 minutes for France in the World Cup, despite only making two appearances in the tournament. This strong club performance, where he rediscovered consistency, has established him as one of Europe’s promising young midfielders.
Other Transfer Activities
Beyond midfield, United have also been examining forward options. Everton‘s Iliman Ndiaye and Crysencio Summerville were identified as potential acquisitions. Summerville, who was reportedly destined for a move to AS Roma, instead joined Saudi Pro League outfit Al Hilal after an £68m offer was accepted.
United‘s interest in the Dutch winger had reportedly diminished, with any transfer dependent on Marcus Rashford‘s future. Rashford appears set to remain at his boyhood club, especially after Barcelona completed permanent deals for Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.
The club’s pre-season preparations have already begun, with United scheduled to start their 2026/27 season away against newly-promoted Hull City.
