Bruno Guimaraes has communicated his desire to depart Newcastle United and join Arsenal. The Premier League champions are reportedly increasing their efforts to acquire the 28-year-old midfielder, indicating a readiness to pay a significant sum for his services.
Reports from June indicated that Arsenal’s verbal offer for Guimaraes, which was below a certain figure, had been rejected. Newcastle, at that time, maintained they would not consider bids for the player. To date, there has been no direct contact between the clubs, and Newcastle continues to hold the position that Guimaraes is not for sale.
Guimaraes’ Stance and Contract Details
Guimaraes has not submitted a formal transfer request. However, he has directly informed Newcastle that he wishes to explore an opportunity with Arsenal if an acceptable offer is made. This preference is stated to be for footballing reasons rather than financial ones, despite him being Newcastle’s highest earner with good wages.
The player, who will turn 29 later this year, reportedly seeks to win titles, believing this is unlikely to happen at Newcastle in the near future. He is also keen to ensure that if he does leave, Newcastle receives a substantial fee for him. Newcastle’s threshold for considering an offer is understood to be around a certain high figure.
Guimaraes signed a five-year contract extension in October 2023, which included a temporary release clause. This clause expired in June 2024 without being activated. He has two years remaining on his current contract.
Newcastle has already seen significant player movement this summer, with Anthony Gordon moving to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali joining Tottenham Hotspur. The club is keen to retain Guimaraes, viewing him as a crucial player.

Players who could leave the club include Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, and Joe Willock. While no offers are currently on the table for these players, Newcastle would consider their departures to facilitate a squad revamp. Sean Steur, an 18-year-old signing, is viewed as a future prospect and is not expected to immediately join the starting lineup.
Howe is reportedly aligned with the new transfer model, working closely with sporting director Ross Wilson and chief executive David Hopkinson. The club aims to avoid a repeat of last summer’s transfer window, which saw significant spending on players who did not fully integrate.
The absence of European football next season is seen as a potential advantage, allowing for more consistent training and player development. The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) remains committed to Newcastle United.
Arsenal’s interest in Guimaraes has been long-standing, with Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta reportedly determined to secure him this summer. Guimaraes is considered a Premier League-ready option for Arsenal’s midfield, capable of playing alongside or as an alternative to Declan Rice. His experience is seen as beneficial, especially given the demands on Rice over the past year.
Losing Guimaraes, particularly after the departures of Gordon and Tonali, would be a significant blow for Newcastle. He is regarded as the team’s captain and a talismanic figure, with a strong connection to the supporters. His absence would impact the team’s creative and offensive capabilities.
Newcastle insists Guimaraes is not for sale and has no intention of allowing the Brazil international to leave. The club views him as invaluable to the team, especially as no first-XI signings have yet arrived.
